I went to Derren's last tour in 2008 for the second time due to the fact I was so taken a-back by this man's talent I found myself having to go again.

To anyone who is sceptical of Derren on channel 4 go and see him live! I was before I saw him and then he read my mind... blind folded!!

"You want to attend Portsmouth University isn't that right?"
"Err.... yes!!"
"Well put that out of your mind for the moment you will be fine there! I want to concerntrate on your new puppy... now he has a slightly odd name right?"
"Yes..."
"It begins with... R and has a p sound in the middle... yes keep calling your dog in your head... no not hes nick-name his full name... he's called Ripley right?"
"......"

After that I was literally shaking... I couldn't believe it. He is amazing!

(I also got into University which was amazing when I looked back on what Derren said!!) [less]

Pains of Being Pure at Heart followed Hatcham Social at the Big Top on the final day of the Isle of Wight festival. Admittedly, I hadn’t heard of them before Tim Burgess had announced the Big Top line up. Having said this I believe that they are one of the best musical discoveries I have made this year. Their sweet melodies and ‘twinkly’ synth sounds come together perfectly. [less]

It’s not every day that Noel Fielding walks past you, smiling, when you are having coffee. But I didn’t believe this to be an ordinary day.

Our group arrived at Riverside Studios a little bit early so we decided to have drinks in the studio bar. It was immediatly obvious that there was a constant presence of Boosh charaters which really got my heart racing!  It wasn’t just Noel or Julian either. Rich Fulcher, who plays the eccentric character Bob Fossil in the show, actually came over and spoke to us. As more Boosh fans arrived however, the comic geniuses seemed to disappear. A wise choice we believe. Having said that Dee Plume from electro band Robots in Disguise was present in the pre-show excitement that filled the bar area.

It seemed like no time at all before we were being called into studio two where the performance was going to take place. I had resigned myself to the fact that we probably wouldn’t get front row seats due to the shear volume of Boosh fans that had queued up outside the studio. But to our amazement that is exactly what I got!!

The show begun with a performance of ‘Future Sailors’ with Noel entering on a grand make-shift pirate ship and Julian having to put up with a pathetic little yellow dingy. The Boosh didn’t in anyway disappoint with their performance. Yes, ok due to it only being in the practising stage there were a few script kinks to iron out. However, I believe that added to the whole atmosphere of the performance.

During the first half, which lasted about 45 minuets there was a whole menagerie of characters both well known and not so. Tony Harrison had his own chat show, Rudi performed an edited version of isolation and techno mouse made his stage debut (in a matchbox). The laughs were constant so much so my mouth actually began to hurt!

Before long it was the interval followed by an admittedly short and abrupt second half. The whole story was based around the whole ‘green’ subject that everyone is currently talking about. However Noel, in his ever flamboyant style, found his own way to take the metaphorical p*ss out of Julian’s ‘concern for the planet’.

The curtains opened to reveal Julian in what can only be described as a ‘potato sack’ toga reading off of a script. The second half must have only lasted five minutes finished by Noel saying point blank “And that’s about all we have… what now?”

Having said that it was after the performance that really made my day. As people started filing out of the studio we held back to have a drink in the bar only to then be joined by the cast. I got to meet everyone, not only the Boosh characters but also Dee and Sue from ‘Robots in Disguise’, Richard Ayowade from ‘The IT Crowd’ and Paul King the director of the Mighty Boosh. My personal highlight was getting to talk to Noel himself. And what a lovely, genuin person he is!

All in all I definatly think it was a worth while venture and I cannot wait to see the Boosh live on tour!! [less]

Well here we go! The comic legend himself has landed in Hastings! Best known for his numerous appearances on Channel 4, including hosting top comedy quiz show '8 out of 10 cats'.

The show opened with a number of video sketches, one of which shows Jimmy in a road 'safty' ad campagn.

From the moment the man himself appeared on stage I was laughing constantly. With his whitty one liners and snappypunch lines it would have been impossible for even the most hard noesd person not to crack a smile.

The second half was just as impressive as the first however, it highlighted one of Jimmy's real talents and the was improvised comedy, which it is sad to say is now very rare in comedians. However, this improv also really got the audiance involved in the show itself which I thought was a really nice touch.

Afterthe show Jimmy offered to sign programs/tickets and do a meet and greet style end to the show. I joined the end of the queue and by the time it was my turn to meet him there was just our group left so we had a bit of a chat about his Channel 4 appearances etc. He is such a genuinly nice person who was obviously very greatful to us for supporting him and coming to the show.

Jimmy Carr is definatly one of the UK's shinning stars when it comes to modern comedy and I very much hope we see a lot more of him on the comedy circuit in the future! [less]

If you need more of an excuse to go to see Idlewild live, other than the music, you have to go for the atmoshpere. It is electric. When the band graced the stage the Honeyclub literally exploded with applause. Idlewild performed both new and old songs stretching throughout their impressive back catalogue. The energy they have on stage is so contagious, everyone was on their feet jumping in time to the music. And I think the whole evening can be sumed up by the chants that followed the encore... "ONE MORE SONG! ONE MORE SONG!!" [less]
