Recommendation for Vieux Farka Toure
by Fluffty from Preston

Incredible performer, saw him at WOMAD a couple of years ago.  He's the son of the blues guitar legend Ali Farka Toure, and is certainly a chip off the old block, but with his own touch.  Don't miss.

I saw Seun Kuti live at WOMAD festival in 2008 where he headlined the Sunday night, closing the festival.  I thought okay, not sure what he has done to deserve that honour but let me see.  The band came on and seemed to be playing in Fela's style which has always been a bit too meandering for my taste if I am honest.   I'm thinking they all look a bit too old to be Seun.  Then partway into the third number BAM! on comes Seun and he kicks the band up 100%.  It was the most exciting act of the festival for me and I love that festival.  I've heard people say that back in Nigeria he's seen as just a tribute act for his dad.  He's different.  It's like new Dr Who to Classic Dr Who - more focussed, more exciting and more brass!  Yeah, much much more dirty brass.  Man, I love that sound and thankfully it got onto the album intact which is why it's got the top five spaces on the most played playlist on my i-pod, with the rest of the tracks in the top 15. I cannot wait to see this act live again.  Get the album please. [less]
