I saw Maggie Bell at Lichfield Art Centre about a year ago, she was fantastic, I have been a fan of Maggie's for 30years so this was a special night for me..she still is up there with Joplin as the best rock and blues artist.. I think she is a credit to Glasgow, and per perents must be very proud of their daughter to have done so well and survived the rock life ... the only regreat I had that night was not being able to thank Maggie Bell for keeping me company for 26years with her music all the times in my bedsit when i worked away from home... well i would like to thank you now Maggie fantastic Bell. From a matured 56year old rock fan. [less]

Watched this show on Tuesday the 24th of November at Southport Theatre and despite a rather small and more mature audience, the show was brilliant! I was dancing in my seat by half way through and remained there until the end! The dancing and singing was brilliant, as was the talented band. A brilliant show for all lovers of motown, from those who remember it first time round, or those, like me, who grew up listening to their mums singing it round the house! An amazing time! [less]

Live Review of Magic of Motown

Motown Karaoke show, including non-Motown songs from Gladys Knight (Midnight train to Georgia) and the Drifters (Under the boardwalk). Strange setup of black singers and an all white band, with the keyboard player looking like someone out of Peter Kay's Pheonix Nights. It was my first time at the Indigo2, so not sure if it was the room acoustics or simply poor sound engineering, but the 'music' was drowned out by completely overblown bass. I retired to the bar where a couple of expensive pints made everything sound more agreeable. Eclectic running order included Diana Ross in her 80's disco phase (I'm coming out) and a couple of 80's Lionel Richie numbers - hardly the 'Magic' of the golden era of Motown. Fortunately, a few of the classics managed to make it and were gratefully received by the middle-aged audience. The show finished with the 'Jackson Five' wearing clown outfits and huge afro wigs. It was rather 'uncomfortable' to see Michael portayed by one of the girl singers, although she did sound a bit like him !! Overall, a show you would expect to see at your local town hall rather than the O2... and the spirit of the 'Black and White' minstrals is alive and well... [less]
