songs to listen for live, emotionless, dance floor anthem and lifestyles of the rich and famous. (Y) [less]

What a great gig; seemingly a subtle combination of the audience, the venue and the band, all of which were great. The stage is a bit unusual in that its the same level as the floor and a small partition separates you from the band. We got there early and so got to the front and enjoyed a really intimate performance. It must be quite nerve-wracking to be that close to your audience, but the band got a great reception when they walked on and settled down with us to enjoy the night.
Swapping the drums, bass and single guitar regularly along with the vocals and harmonies and punctured with occasional electric violin and keyboard from the Simi, and huge grins from 'the Deacon', gave a warmth and variety to the melodic sound. Simone's occasional leaps onto the bass drum were something I've not seen before.
Most of the music was off the album 'nothing gold can stay' but a version of Neil Young's 'Helpless' went down well. Simi only lead the vocals once but what a sound, would like to hear more. The audience was fully absorbed and attentive throughout and probably grinning like me.
After the encore they leapt over the barrier (the band that is!) and exchanged pleasantries, handshakes and hugs with the crowd. Very little pomp here; just a great night among friends is what it felt like. They say they may be returning again next year. Hope so. [less]

Sorry to report some mindless idiots throwing cans and others pushing through the crowd during La Roux's set - there were a few girls in tears around me but I stayed near a wall to avoid being crushed!
La Roux and Elly Jackson in particular were excellent but the sound was very muffled and over distorted to the point of just being very loud so that her vocals were drowned out ( A shame as she has a great voice).
It was a venue with much promise but way too late (finished at 2 am and I had an hours drive to get home), too loud (still have ringing in my ears - never had that even when I was a sound mixer!), too many idiots pushing - sorry Warehouse Project - must do better next time!! [less]
