Recommendation for Maria Jagusz
by Donald from Bull Pitch

Recently at Park House , Cheltenham Maria gave a recital and she impressed me a lot. ( I have been reviewing for local papers for over 20 years). She has a mezzo of considerable range and power  and is a lively and warm presence on the concert platform.

I was unaware of Naomi until I attended a Manchester Camerata rehearsal in Sheffield (November).  I have since looked up her name on the ensemble's website.   In a Haydn symphony (22), which I didn't know, Naomi caught my attention with some confident playing and achieving a rich, bold sound.
She was a pupil of Michael Purton whom I watched for several years as principal horn with the Hallé and so her ability is no surprise.
With over forty years of concert listening behind me, I would be quite prepared to put her name forward to orchestras as a player to note or head-hunt.  I look forward to Naomi and her colleagues returning to Sheffield for a Haydn concert in May. [less]

Live Review of Mozart Festival Orchestra
by Percy from Darlington

I found the Harrogate concert disappointing, with sub-standard string playing and cellists who gossiped and couldn't wait to get away.  The clarinet concerto was well played, however, but the electric 'candles' and the stage hands in modern dress were just a bit daft.  Overall  could do better.... I saw Lesley in the Sound of Music, I liked her put wasn't a particularly avid fan.  But when she sang Climb Every Mountain the audience were transfixed. I still have goosebumps every time I think of it.  When she sang that last high note the audience erupted and she had a standing ovation in the middle of the show.  At the end even though Connie Fisher was excellent the biggest reaction was for Lesley. Absolutely marvellous! [less]
