Gerry was magnificent tonight, totally commanding the audience with hit after hit, and with strong vocals. The audience gave a standing ovation as he ended his performance with the uplifting "You'll Never Walk Alone". You don't have to come from Liverpool to recognise that the talent has carried him through the ages. Now 66, he still has the magic, supported by his musically talented PACEMAKERS..if you get a chance to see him live..do...He's what Britain is all about  "GREAT". Hope top see you back in Wakefield in June at a private 'gig' Gerrard !!   Thanks once again ! [less]

I saw Mike Pender's Searchers in Liverpool last Summer, having seen them many times previously.

I offer the opinion that not only has Mike's voice and 12-string guitar playing got even better with age and experience, but his legendary good looks have not diminished either!  He is, quite simply THE voice of The Searchers, and this will never change, whatever else is happening on the 60's scene.

If you want the authentic sound of the band in 1964, then I recommend Mike Pender's Searchers to leave you asking for more, with seriously authentic versions of "Needles and Pins", "Don't Throw Your Love Away", and "When You Walk In The Room", (which remains Mike's favourite Searchers song to this day).  By the way, if you get a chance to see the band live, check out bass-player Barrie Cowell, Mike's original bass-man since 1985.  Find me a better slap-bass player and I'll buy you a large drink....! I must admit that the idea of a tribute to a band that regularly tour in small venues anyway seemed rather odd. What was even stranger was just how many bookings they seem to be getting! Intrigued, I decided to head along to The Cat and Wheel in Bristol to see what the fuss was about.

Now, I'm not really a fan of The Wurzels, so my hopes weren't particularly high, but a couple of pints of 'rough' (scrumpy) and I must admit, I started enjoying myself. The band play a mix of Wurzels covers and their own original numbers in a Wurzels style.

The audience are encouraged to take part by singing along, and later in the set, playing a range of improvised percussion instrumenents. I even spoke to one lady who was so impressed she booked them to play at her wedding!

Overall, it was a very enjoyable evening. I just daren't admit it to any of my friends... [less]
