I have to disagree with all the bad posts here. Admittedly, the sound quality wasn't the best but her performance was brillaint. Some happy catchy tunes and others that lyrically really hit home.
I know this all comes down to personal taste, but I feel that objective reviews would be more constructive.
The venue was also brillaint. Reasonable drink prices and also some nice local brews.
All in all, a cracking night. [less]

This small venue, upstairs at a pub, was originally used occasionally to offer bands an alternative venue to play when the Fleece closed down a few years ago due to a fire.
Ever since then it's taken a life of its own and has seen big bands play before they've crossed over into the charts. Travis, Stereophonics, Scissor Sisters, Divine Comedy, White Stripes, they've all played here. Of course plenty of bands who've never made it have to!!
It's a great venue for catching up and coming bands at a reasonable price before they move onto the Academy, Colston Hall, etc. The amount of people who've claimed they saw the White Stripes at the Loui is far greater than the actual number who were there!
On the down side, when a gig is sold out it it makes it very difficult to get a view unless you're at the very front due to the low stage. And even harder to see if a certain tall chap with afro hair is attending!
Also it's usually unbearably hot with sweat pouring off everyone, although a new air conditioning vent has now been installed which has made a subtle difference.
Nevertheless, the Louisiana is definately a cosy, friendly venue where you can catch the stars of tomorrow today. It also supports many local bands and hosts music 7 nights a week! [less]

Carling Academy Bristol

Great Venue!! But can get really cramped if a concert is sold out. I always go to carling acadamys as you always have a good view because they are quite small. when there is a really loud bass the floor in certain places actually jumps!

Nice small, friendly pub in Centre of Bristol. Bar at one end serving real ales and stage at other - crowd in middle! Holds maybe 100+? steps to higher level for 30 seats? Saw Roxy Magic (See review) here at end 2006, fantastic band, brilliant view. We much prefer these... [more]
Nice small, friendly pub in Centre of Bristol. Bar at one end serving real ales and stage at other - crowd in middle! Holds maybe 100+? steps to higher level for 30 seats? Saw Roxy Magic (See review) here at end 2006, fantastic band, brilliant view. We much prefer these intimate venues to stadiums where you can't even see the act, let alone faces and the playing styles. We spend weekends going to such places as Flowerpot at Derby, Limelight at Crewe and Robin2 at Bilston all similar pub venues with regular live acts and professional management. Until serious injuries forced me to stop for a year. Will be fit again to hit these venues before Xmas 08! [less]
Recommendation for
The Cube,
Bristol
by Meg from Bristol
This venue, although one of the best in Bristol, can be a bit tricky to find! If coming from the centre/broadmead end, head along Jamaica Street and turn left up Princess Row then turn right at the top and head across the car park towards the neon pink sign!
