This is one of my favourite ever venues.
It small but not too small. There are two stages. This is great becuase when festivals are on (such as LiverpoolSoundCity) because it means that you can have two bands on at the same time, but because there's only two stages which were staggered you didn't have to completely miss any of the bands. The main stage is situated upstairs and is great.Because of the balcony, the large width, and the bar at the back of the room. This means that if you like the music but not the crowd, you can keep well away and enjoy the sound. And it also helps people like, who, at any good gig, are posessed by the overwhelming urge to be front and centre, becuase the crowds are thinner, so it's much easier to get to the front.
One of the best bands I've seen there was Simple Plan. When the band pretended to have finished, the lead singer Pierre disappeared, and to the awe and delight of the audience, reappeared to sing a stunningly poignant version of "Perfect" from a podium at the sound deck in the center of the crowd!
However the thing I like most about this venue is the smaller stage. I've seen a few great bands there, such as The Bravery, Day with Mary, Air Traffic, The Cinematics and The Wombats. This small stage is just perfect. If you're watching a warm p band you're not too interested in, or waiting for a band to come on, there are booths and cute tables at the back which are perfect to sit around with friends. Theres also a few of these lovely comfy couches around the bar too, so you can sit down when you've been standing at a fest all day. There's also a few tables and barstools which are wonderfully well placed , as due to the cut outs in the wall, if you're one of the forementioned people who prefers to sit and listen, you can stuck your head through and listen to and watch the bands. And if you're crafty enough you can actually nab a place at the front cut out which gives you a perfect place to lean out of when the band comes on and be only a metre or two away. And the bar and booth are means again, that the people who aren't too interested in the music will stay out of the giglovers way.
And the stage itself is a lovely tiny size which means you can get right next to the band, and the bouncers are also particularly nice and helpful and instead of being cranky, will actually help you when someone is trying to tackle you to get ahead if they see (something which I've never encountered before).
The venue is so good that even if the band isn't that great, it's a fabulous place to to hang out with friends, recommended to all. [less]

Recently attended a Amy Winehouse Night at the Orrell Park Ballroom and had a really good night and that seemed to be the general attitude all round. The atmosphere was really good and everybody danced and made the most of the night from start to finish. The function room was a good size as it was not too big or too small just seemed right to be able to enjoy the act. Will definately attend the Bad Manners night hopefully the same again at the OPB! The Cavern is the most famous club in the world. It’s also one of my favourites.
Designed/rebuilt to look carved out of rock, the aptly named Cavern has a small stage at the front of the underground main area which once, obviously, launched the Beatles to fame. There is a back room with a larger performance area as well for bigger gigs and private parties. There is an atmosphere throughout though, because of its history, which means that any gig at the Cavern feels special and this is possibly why some bands still have ‘secret gigs’ there to try out new material in an intimate venue where so many iconic bands have done the same previously.
The Cavern is on Mathew Street, the whole of which is more-or-less a shrine to Liverpool’s most famous sons, with the majority of the bars given a Beatles-themed name and a bronze statue of Lennon upon it. [less]

We turned up about 9pm to catch the warm up acts.. They were mainly acoustic acts, followed by an experimental noise-screamo band (!) and then Adult by Accident started warming up and getting there equipment set up.
Opening track, Misery Tourism was like a blast of pure melody hitting you in the face, this then sequed straight into Whipping Boy, a funky upbeat stormer.
The band grooved and danced along and created a great atmosphere out of the 3/4 full venue. They were a great storming band performing a hooky little set full of summer tunes that should by rights, be blasting out of everyones stereo's this time next summer.
I eagerly await the debut album due out this Autumn! [less]

Went to Lenny's opening night last night to eat with friends. The place looks fantastic, not quite sure how to describe it? Maybe a cross between 1920's Charleston and up town Manhattan?

The food was great, their were 4 of us and we ordered all their varieties of ribs, which are amazing!
Then T bones and 'Chinatown' Chilli beef, which were as good as the ribs.
Going back next weekend for food and then 'Comedy Hell' the comedy show in the basement [less]
