Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry

In past 2 years seen Madeline Peyroux, Pink Martinis and Bill Bryson (Funny US Comedy novelist show about UK). All sell-outs. Great venue, clear views, perfect acoustics - wonderful evenings.
Easy to book. Approx 1800 capacity? Venue has loads of car-parking, can be hectic getting out onto main roads afterwards... [more]

Easy to book. Approx 1800 capacity? Venue has loads of car-parking, can be hectic getting out onto main roads afterwards but minor issue. Arrive early and beat the students to the bar and order 1/2 time drinks too! Some of the helpers (Students) sometimes unsure which doors to use but minor inconvenience. [less]
Local tip for

Don't be fooled by the new name - the NEC Arena has not yet been renovated, it is still the same grey, decrepid aircraft-hangar Brummies have grown to hate. This venue is really starting to show it's age now. I have been attending concerts here for more than 25 years and it's hardly changed in all that time.
Because of it's open-plan layout, the place really lacks atmosphere. The catering is laughable - both expensive and inadequate. While attending a Simple Minds concert last week, the already-limited choice was further reduced because, by 8pm, the burger bars had run out of burgers! The car parking is extortionate (£7 for advanced bookings or £8 on the night) and they always use the car parks furthest from the Arena (allow yourself another 15 minutes to be transported by shuttle bus). Most midlanders don't even have the option of using public transport as the majority of services finish before midnight.
I hope that the new LG Arena is all-enclosed with some terraced seating on the floor to improve sightlines. I look forward to seeing a variety of food outlets similar to those we now see at most festivals. I also suggest that they re-organise the car parking so that you can actually walk to the Arena, or better still, that they hold discussions with local transport companies about the possibility of providing extra services after events. I went to Bardello on Thursday 3rd November and had a great night. There was even a couple of FREE dance classes, I arrived about 18:30 and and was told the lesson would start about 19:30 which was fine as it gave me and my two friends a chance to have something to eat from the tapas menu, of which was the finest I have tasted, and is even cheaper than La CC's. The drinks and wine list is huge and is very latin in it's self, all though there was only one server on that night he did a great job of chatting to the table's and keeping our cocktails topped up. The dance lesson was fabulous and I will be returning for more lessons and tapas in the future [less]
