Review of Riff's Bar at Hook, Swindon

Riffs is about an hours drive for us so it has to be good, and it is. They put on a good variety of live original bands with 2 or 3 acts in a night. The layout is good with enough room to dance at the front, a long bar, plenty of seating and decent toilets. They also do great food. Look out for events like Battle of the Bands and weekend All-dayers. Bands to see include Souljacker, The Wookies and Stillyano. [less]

The Vic is one of the best music venues in Stroud. The Little Vic next door caters for the under 25s so you get a good mixture of all ages in the main bar.  They put on plenty of live music, with cover bands on Friday and Saturday nights and original acts on Thursdays. There's a decent sized dance floor, efficient bar service and a covered outdoor area with patio heaters for smokers. Since the credit crunch, it only gets really busy on Saturdays, but you get a decent crowd on a Friday too. Thursdays are very quiet but worth going to see bands you just won't see anywhere else.
Bands to look out for are The Tone Devils, The Outsiders, Sunset, Angel Up front, Bob's Full House and Dustmites. [less]

Review of The Wheatsheaf (The Venue), Cheltenham
by Jay from Exeter

A really friendly, small and cosy place for gigs, at the back of suburban pub - pretty good acoustics too!  If you're looking for a stadium atmosphere, this is not your No 1 choice, but for an intimate gig, just the ticket.  Good luck to The Venue!

The Duke of York put on a variety of live bands, some original, some cover bands. Usually only one band in an evening, although they occasionally have two. The venue is small, so no space to dance and difficult to make yourself heard but a good mixed age group and definately the friendliest crowd in Stroud. They do a range of local beers, but be warned, it can take a while to get served! The loos are decent and there's plenty of parking nearby. Look out for Chinese Burn, Sickbag And The Asthmatics and Dustmites. Also Pure Evil (if you like jazz). [less]
