The New Theatre is a lovely, traditional, theatre in the centre of Cardiff. It's well maintained and attractively decorated.
The seats are really comfortable and with good leg room (except for the Upper Circle - 'the Gods'), really important if, like me, you are tall and have back problems! There is plenty of on-street parking within a 5-10 minute walk, free after 6PM (Park Place, Museum Avenue, Windsor Place), and also good bus and train services.
Tips: If you don't expect the show to be that full, buy cheaper or mid range seats (like back stalls), as you will likely be invited to move down to better seats before the show starts. Or you can do so anyway at the interval or before. There are also stand-by and other offers available depending on performance - ask. [less]

Coed Hills is amazing. We went to one of their mini-festivals to celebrate the spring equinox, saw a load of excellent bands and cabaret performances, did a couple of workshops, and had a sauna in a yurt! Everyone was really friendly and up for a good time... it's a while since we have been anywhere so relaxed and open. We enjoyed it so much we asked if we could stay on for a few days afterward... and weren't surprised when the answer was yes (especially as we had offered to help out in the permaculture garden for a couple of hours a day). We didn't leave until the Thursday after the event, which gave us plenty of time to explore the '100 acre wood' that was full of bluebells and other native species of wild flowers. We discovered the hidden secrets of this enchanted place; the spiral house and the octagonal house, the percussive garden which had a whole assortment of beautifully crafted chiming and drumming instruments as well as the arts trail. And we've learned enough about gardening to grow our own vegetables.
The community (about 20 or so permanent residents who live in yurts and benders in the woods) let us join them at meal times and were always willing to tell us more about the place. They describe what they are doing as 'an experiment in sustainable living', and judging by the bits of kit that they've got, I think it's an experiment that's working. They have an incredible biomass boiler to supplement the massive wind turbine and sun tracking solar array units that they have dotted around the grounds. This coupled with the permaculture gardens means that they have gone a fair way towards being self-sufficient already.
None of the meals cost more than £4.00, and they only charged us £5.00 a night for camping. The mini-festival was £20.00, and so we ended up having a weeks holiday in a gorgeous, bountiful place, with brilliant bands and performers at the weekend for less than £100 each. This place was the find of the year... we're going back for the Summer Solstice Celebration in June, and have already arranged to stay on for another three days after the event. [less]

The venue itself is brilliant. There's loads of room to have a dance and a little bit of a headbang/mosh. The overall sound is also fab. The only thing I would like to see is more toilets!!!! There is always a massive queue when you really really need a wee!!! [less]

Saw Skinny Molly and The Wholigans at The Globe recently and was very impressed.
