The Books are a rare and refreshing exception in a music world so often dominated by single-mindedness, making music that's eclectic to say the least. There may be hints of lo-fi, hip-hop and africana in there, and they're definitely experimental, but they change direction so many times within one song that pinning them down to just one genre would be simply rude.
