Sarah McLachlan has emerged as one of Canada's leading recording artists and a major force in the North American music industry. Her 1997 release Surfacing sold 6 million copies in USA and over a million in Canada; it also won two Grammy Awards, four Juno Awards and many other distinctions. McLachlan also conceived and launched the much-heralded Lilith Fair tour, a multi-artist bill showcasing the talents of women performers from around the world.
