Marianne Faithfull is best known as the sixties rock chick who made a hit out of Jagger and Richard's 'As Tears Go By'. However this image does not do justice to an artist who has produced an impressively varied cannon of work. After splitting from her sixties influences Faithfull reinvented herself as an edgy and world-weary songstress and proved that she could write superb music as well as sing it. Collaborations with musicians as diverse as Dr John and The Chieftains have been spread between commanding solo work that has featured at turns both a tense punky sound and also a brooding and dark brilliance. With 35 years experience behind her Marianne Faithfull is still recording and performing, and in doing so continues to set benchmarks for aspiring singer-songwriters.
