The band was established in 1921 as the St James Mission Church Band and is a registered charity with no professional players. We currently have a strong team of instrumentalists from Bath, Bristol and Wiltshire and are lucky enough to have players from local schools and the Universities. Our youngest member plays percussion and is 12 years old whilst our older members have been in the band for 40 to 50 years. It has also played at the Bath International Music Festival as well as for audiences in the local parks and gardens, for local churches and retirement homes. Bath Spa Band regularly performs in Concerts in support of local charities such as the Carrswood centre in Twerton. The band also competes in national and regional brass band contests, and in 2008 represented the West of England in the National Finals of the Brass band Championships. It's most recent contest success was at Weston Super Mare in May where the band achieved 3rd place.
