The Grave Of Winter: Pre-Concert Performance

A performance of poetry by war poet Edward Thomas and prose by his wife Helen Thomas preface this evening’s concert, forming part of Love and War, Music in the Round’s Festival of World Class Music. The dialogue throws into stark relief the intensity of love and the bitter agony of separation and death in the years of the First World War. Edward and Helen's marriage was often turbulent, but the lyricism of his peacetime and wartime poetry and the direct power of her memoirs form a devastating commentary on the brutal impact that had war on both those who went to fight and those who remained behind.
