MANTRA Workshop

Sheffield-based Music in the Round is looking for singers from a range of different backgrounds across the city to take part in an exciting new performance project. Acclaimed musicians unite to present MANTRA: Musical Conversations across the Indian Ocean, the joyful spirit and exotic sounds of this extraordinary cross-cultural encounter. The concert is performed by The Orlando Consort, distinguished Indian musicians and schools and choirs across Sheffield, and will take place at Sheffield Cathedral on 13 November.

Participants are welcome from a range of ages and cultural environments. They should be able to sing, but a professional background is not a requirement, a love of singing and enjoying musical exploration are the most important ingredients. Singers will take part in three pieces of MANTRA; performing a series of east-west musical encounters mixing western Renaissance-style composition with Bhangra music and Indian song.
