Duet for One by Tom Kempinski

Directed by Robin Herford (The Woman in Black) Tom Kempinski’s multi-award winning play returns to the stage on a major UK tour. With strong echoes of the life and experiences of cellist Jacqueline du Pré the play tells of celebrated concert violinist Stephanie Abrahams (Haydn Gwynne), who is forced to re-evaluate her life when struck down by an unforeseen tragedy. Faced with a truth too difficult to comprehend Stephanie consults psychiatrist Dr Feldmann (William Gaunt), and through a series of highly-charged dramatic encounters is led to examine her deepest feelings and darkest emotions.

Haydn Gwynne is best known on television for her lead roles in Peak Practice, MerseyBeat, Nice Work, and Drop the Dead Donkey, winning three Royal Television Society Awards for Best Actress, and nominations for a British Comedy Award and a BAFTA.

William Gaunt starred with Penelope Keith in BBC Television’s Next of Kin earlier becoming a household name in ITV’s Sergeant Cork playing Bob Marriott. He also created Arthur Crabtree, the long-suffering father in No Place Like Home and Richard Barratt in The Champions.
