WW1 Remembrance Is Part Of The Landscape: Wartime Landscapes And The Post War Imagination
To End All Wars
Hear Dr Angela Smith speak on the literary legacies of the First World War, notably imaginative reinterpretations tinted by hindsight and by mourning. Though familiar landscapes of the Western Front are significant in defining how the war is understood and interpreted in cultural memory, Smith also examines the soldier's narratives which often replicate the war presented in photographs.
This lecture explores the ways in which the post-war imagination influenced the fictional landscapes of the 1920s and 1930s and how the landscapes themselves influence the way we remember the First World War.
