Acis & Galatea

Often referred to as the greatest pastoral opera ever written, Acis & Galatea is a musical masterpiece from one of the greatest composers of all time - George Fredric Handel, with words by well-know contemporary - poet John Gay - of "The Beggars Opera" fame.

The opera tells the enchanting story from ancient mythology; Acis is a the son of the spirit Pan, Galatea a nymph of the sea. They fall in love only to be thwarted by the Cyclopes, Polyphemus. In a jealous rage he kills Acis and left alone and bereft Galatea turns his blood into a river forever flowing into the sea.

A new co-production between Mid Wales Opera and Royal Welsh college of Music & Drama, with members of Brecon Baroque and - at selected performances - students from RWCMD including the RWCMD Badinerie Emsemble.

Includes a pre-performance talk by MWO's Artistic Director Nicholas Cleobury.
