The History of Ideas
Historian author and broadcaster Dr Bettany Hughes discusses the history of ideas with fellow St Hilda's College alumnus Nicolette Jones. Hughes has presented two recent BBC Radio 4 series on the history of civilisation's most influential ideas. The two series have explored ideas on liberty comedy hospitality wisdom peace justice agony love and fame.Hughes is an award-winning historian author and broadcaster. Her first book Helen of Troy: Goddess Princess Whore has been translated into 10 languages and her second The Hemlock Cup Socrates Athens and the Search for the Good Life was a New York Times bestseller. She has presented more than 40 television and radio documentaries for a variety of channels including the BBC ITV and Discovery and was awarded the 2010 Naomi Sargent Education Prize for Broadcast Excellence.Jones is a critic and chair of the St Hilda's College Media Network. This event is part of St Hilda's Day at the festival.
