Believing Othello has promoted the fast-rising Cassio over himself, Lago plots to destroy both Cassio and Othello. Lago convinces the jealous Othello that his beautiful wife Desdemona is unfaithful, and that Cassio is her lover. Jealousy is followed by tragedy, then retribution.
