The English Golden Age: Theatre and Playwriting from 1570-1642

SHORT COURSE: Explore one of the most vibrant periods in English theatre history, from the late-medieval period, through Marlowe and Shakespeare, to the Jacobeans and the Carolinians.

Take an in-depth look at 70 years of performance between 1570 and the closure of the theatres under Cromwell in 1642. This course will place the plays within the social and political world that created this intense period of drama as well as examining 20th & 21st century productions of the works. Discover unique extracts from the V&A National Video Archive of Performance and listen to actors and directors who will draw on their own association with productions of these plays to bring them to life.

Wednesdays, 26 September – 5 December 2012 (Half term: 31 October), 10:30am - 1:00pm.
