All Change Festival: English Or Not?
One in three Londoners are born in a foreign country. How do the changing demographics of the UK affect approaches to translation, programming, and audience development?
A play written in a language other than English will often get a literal translation, which will then be adapted by a well-known playwright. But in being given over to a master of the British theatrical idiom, its foreignness can be inadvertently scrubbed away.
This session will investigate ways theatre written in other languages gets staged here. Joined by: Diana Damian, performance and live art critic and curator; Will Drew, writer, dramaturg, translator and game designer; Andrew Haydon, freelance theatre critic and more.
