Alister Spence Quartet
Alister Spence has long been recognised in Australia as one of the finest and most original pianists/composers in improvised music. With an acclaimed trio at home that includes Lloyd Swanton (the Necks), Alister’s music blends texture, soundscape, melody and improvisation with a unique and captivating compositional style.
Alister has performed with many acclaimed and diverse artists such as Barre Phillips, Satoko Fujii, Tony Buck, Myra Melford, Jim O’Rourke and Ed Kuepper (The Saints/Laughing Clowns).
The Alister Spence Quartet was formed in 2009. This is their 3rd European tour and debut at The Vortex: Raymond MacDonald (sax), Joe Williamson (bass) and Chris Cantillo (drums/glockenspiel).
