Andy Irvine is, they say, Woody Guthrie's representative on Earth.
He would regard that as the ultimate compliment. The great Irish singer who was inspired by the American folk legend has achieved legendary status himself - renowned the world over as a brilliant song-writer and bouzouki maestro. Another Kalamazoo favourite, Dick Gaughan calls Irvine "a genius of a musician - an inspiration to all of us. What more can anyone ask?" Si Kahn US songwriter and civil rights activist says "He has a philosopher's ears and a prophet's passionate voice - he is a stunning songwriter and instrumentalist."
Irvine's amazing 50-year career has taken in many bands and collaborations -from Sweeney's Men to Planxty, Patrick Street and Mosaik. Tonight at the Kalamazoo it'll be just him and his bouzoukis.
