Imaginary Delta: Adam Fairhall
Pianist-composer Adam Fairhall's project The Imaginary Delta was originally commissioned by Manchester Jazz Festival 2011, and the project's debut album was released on SLAM in spring 2012. The album received rave reviews for the way it re-imagines early jazz forms via a mixture of old and new idioms, acoustic instruments and new technologies. Featuring a band of seven highly creative musicians from Manchester and London, the music is surprising, haunting and ultimately uplifting. The debut gig at Manchester's Band on the Wall in 2011 was voted the no.

Composer and jazz pianist Adam Fairhall's distinctive piano playing has been noted for the diversity of its stylistic reference points; idioms drawn from any period of jazz history may be blended, collided, subverted, hinted at or played completely 'straight' in his performances. Despite this playful and often witty approach, Adam's playing is committed rather than ironic and detached, and reveals a love of piano jazz from ragtime to free.
