Pop Up Festival London

An eclectic melee of children’s writers, illustrators, poets and storytellers will be entertaining and inspiring families during an exciting day of free events, activities and art workshops celebrating children’s literature during the Pop Up Festival of Stories 2014 national tour.

Known to ‘pop up anywhere’ and in unusual spaces, Pop Up Festival Of Stories is a children’s literature festival with a twist that brings children and families together to enjoy and participate in stories by creating a magical event where play, experiment, creativity and collaboration are celebrated.

Pop Up Festivals are completely free public events that break the mould by inviting authors and artists – the Festival Creators - to design the events and activities themselves, curate site specific spaces, collaborate across art-forms, and bring books and stories to life for children and families from all walks of life. Each Pop Up Festival offers over 100 hours of activity, enriched by a Royal Opera House team creating sets, costumes and other design elements to enhance the fun.

2014 Festival Creators include award-winning translator Sarah Ardizzone; Artichoke Heart writer Sita Brahmachari; myths & fantasy author Sarwat Chadda; performance poet Kayo Chingonyi; picture book creator Thomas Docherty; poet and activist Zena Edwards; multi-award-winning author Julia Golding; visual storyteller Usifu Jalloh; picture book artist James Mayhew; ‘spooky’ illustrator Chris Mould; fairy tale writer Jane Ray; eco-storyteller Rich Sylvester; Mr Big creator Ed Vere; and author/illustrator Ken Wilson-Max.
