A String Of Rites - RIOT Offspring : National Youth Dance Company (NYDC), Riot Community Company
The last in the A String of Rites series, RIOT Offspring is a double bill which opens with the inaugural performance of the new National Youth Dance Company in a specially commissioned work from NYDC’s first Guest Artistic Director, Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Jasmin Vardimon.
Completing the programme is a collaboration between four international choreographers - Sébastien Ramirez, Ivan Blackstock (BirdGang), Mafalda Deville and Pascal Merighi (guest artist, Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch) and an intergenerational cast, brought together to create a unique dance piece with a live orchestra playing Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring.
In 1913, the unfamiliar sounds of The Rite of Spring were enough to ignite rage and rioting; prompted by recent riots, the cast explore their own
perceptions of rites, rituals and riots.
