From Rags To Riches: The Irving Berlin Songbook
For one night only, musicians, dancers and singers perform the works of Irving Berlin.
Rags to Ritzes returns to Royal Festival Hall for a night of spectacular songs compèred by BBC Radio 2 presenter Leo Green.
He tells the story of how the songs came to be, and of how a small child arrived in America from Russia in 1893 and went on to become one of the true fathers of the Great American Songbook.
The concert features classic Berlin material: 'Always', 'Blue Skies', 'Cheek To Cheek', 'Isn’t This A Lovely Day', 'I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm', 'Let’s Face The Music And Dance', 'Puttin’ On The Ritz', 'Steppin Out With My Baby', 'Top Hat White Tie & Tails', 'You’re Just In Love', 'Change Partners' and many others.
Nobody sums up the work of Irving Berlin better than Jerome Kern, another giant of the song-writing scene, who stated: 'Irving Berlin has no place in American music – he is American music.'
