Battle Of Waterloo - 200th Anniversary Concert
A special concert commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo brings to life the excitement and drama of this unique moment in British history through a series of scenes and music presented by TV personality, writer and historian, Sir Tony Robinson.
The Battle of Waterloo took place on 18 June 1815 and marked the final defeat of French military leader and emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. This concert features a selection of rousing and evocative music including:
Schubert: March Militaire
Handel: See, the Conqu’ring Hero Comes!
Suppe: Light Cavalry Overture
Beethoven: Symphony No 5 (First Movement)
Beethoven: Leonore Overture No 3
Beethoven: Wellington’s Victory (with live musket fire)
The performance also features traditional songs performed in full military dress of the period, including Scotland the Brave and La Marseillaise.
The concert will be performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Gareth Hancock, Goldsmith’s Choral Union, a marching band and musketeers in full military costume. Sir Tony Robinson’s illustrious career spans over four decades including revered TV series’ Blackadder and Time Team.
