Reel Iraq: Reel Music: City Of Salt + Leila Albayaty + Khyam Allami
Special preview screening of Parine Jaddo's Broken Record, a poetic journey through Iraq in search of a Turkman song her mother used to sing, along with Iraqi short films on music.
Followed by a showcase of Iraqi music. City Of Salt's performances at Reel Iraq coincide with the international release of their debut album ‘Towers Open Fire’ Live visuals by Parine Jaddo, director of film ‘Broken Record’, previewing at the festival. Leila Albayaty will perform songs taken from her first feature film ‘Berlin Telegram’ and album of the same name.

City Of Salt
City of Salt are an experimental and startlingly contemporary Arabic three piece who tear apart the rule book and combine the oud, clarinet and electric guitar to explore Middle Eastern traditions through jazz, noise and improvisation. Their unusual compositions and non-conformist attitude will send a shiver down the spine of the purist.

Leila Albayaty is of Iraqi French origin. A true artist who divides her time between music and movies, directing, composing and performing. Her songs are about love, loss and hope. Leila is a true cosmopolitan oozing with ambition and creativity - experimental and exciting.

Khyam Allami
Khyam Allami is a young and active London based musician of Iraqi descent. Khyam is currently performing the Ud (or Oud – Arabic Lute), as a soloist and with various small groups. He also plays Drum Kit in Knifeworld. “Influenced by traditional Middle Eastern modal systems, but original.” - The Guardian.
