The Music Of Mikis Theodorakis

A programme of music by the great Mikis Theodorakis. Internationally known for his musical contributions to the film "Zorba the Greek", but also one of the contemporary composers who recognised the value of Rebetiko music and the bouzouki, and was the first to put it into the concert hall.

Mikis has collaborated with great poets such as Ritsos who who wrote lyrics for his songs and is a real icon of Greek music and culture. Although he wrote great "folk" songs which were inspired by rebetiko, being a classically trained composer he, along with Hadjidakis, also brought the two worlds of classical and Greek music closer together.

A presentation about Mikis Theodorakis and his role in the Rebetiko revival is also planned for just before the performance at 8pm.
