Never miss another 'Booka Shade' show
Booka Shade + Boris Brejcha + Krankbrother + Entail Records
The legendary dance duo Booka Shade return to London for a special late , live and full AV show.
Booka Shade are Berlin-based duo Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier; a pair who – after producing music together for more than 25 years – have emerged as one of the rare electronic music acts that channel the spirit and sounds of underground techno, but who can ignite any festival crowd, winning over fans across the rock and dance music scenes.
From their first underground trance hit – ‘Una Musica Senza Ritmo' as Degeneration – to co-founding Get Physical Music (alongside M.A.N.D.Y, Thomas 'DJ T' Koch and production partner Peter Hayo), it wasn’t until 2002 that Arno and Walter finally felt they had total musical freedom.
Guided by Booka Shade’s unmistakable productions, Get Physical became one of modern Berlin's (and the world’s) key dance music labels, and acted as an outlet for 4 of their own artist albums, ‘Memento‘, ‘Movements’, ‘The Sun & The Neon Light‘ and most recently 'More!'. Tracks such as “Night Falls”, “Mandarine Girl” and “In White Rooms” became crossover hits along the electronic spectrum. The pair went on to become highly sought after remixers, lending their magic touch to respected artists such as Depeche Mode, Moby, Yello, Hot Chip, Kings Of Leon, Tiga, and The Knife.
In 2011, Arno and Walter handed over control of Get Physical to their co-founders M.A.N.D.Y. and Peter Hayo on amiable terms.
In addition to their energetic live shows (named by the cutting-edge electronic music hub “Resident Advisor” as one of the world’s Top 5 live acts), Booka Shade also enjoy moving crowds with their DJ sets. In 2012, they were hand picked by BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong to mix his annual “All Gone Ibiza” compilation. Memorable DJ appearances so far this year have included the Space Ibiza opening party, as well as a range of US festivals including the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas. Their most recent DJ mix also reached #1 on the Beatport charts.
Booka Shade’s music audibly absorbs influences from everywhere: classical, rock, jazz, film score. It overcomes language barriers and unites crowds; the bass line to arguably their biggest hit – “Body Language” – is sung by festivalgoers the world over. Co-produced with M.A.N.D.Y, “Body Language” was also used as a sample by will.i.am in his song “Get Your Money”.
Booka Shade are Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier, described as veterans of the Frankfurt electronic music scene. After beginnings similar to those of Underworld (namely as an overlooked early nineties synth pop duo), the band has more recently created club music. In 2002, they founded Get Physical Records with DJ T. and M.A.N.D.Y.
