Variations On A Theme: Dissent Ensemble
Variations on a Theme tackles problems and debates regarding race, class and the re-emergence of right-wing nationalistic organisations. The action unfolds at a public meeting being held by a ‘moderate, inclusive’ right-wing party. Its arguments explore questions surrounding race and its definition, belonging and betrayal, tolerance and manipulation. Variations on a Theme was developed using verbatim techniques and participatory observation.
Dissent Ensemble is a collective whose experimental work demands risk in both the design style and narrative content. The company’s performers are usually graduates of the University of West London, Central and East 15.
