Beyond The Joke Scratch Night: Mark Kelly, Maggie Inchley, John-Luke Roberts
A double-bill of new works-in-progress from some of the brightest names in standup-theatre. In What a Day by Mark Kelly and Maggie Inchley, two strangers meet for the first and last time in unusual, desperate circumstances.
The show draws inspiration from Beckett and his interest in comedy. Its script is entirely comprised of comic one-liners. It’s about identity and communication, memory and transience, the human condition in the digital age and life as a (tragic) joke.
Maggie Inchley is Associate Lecturer in Theatre Studies at the Uni of Surrey and at Birkbeck. She is joint artistic director of the Comedians Theatre Company, which has worked with the Pleasance, Gilded Balloon, Underbelly and the Assembly Rooms.
Mark Kelly has written with Jo Brand for fourteen years, creating some acclaimed comedy routines. He has written comedy and drama for TV and radio and has written and performed his own work both solo and otherwise.
John-Luke Roberts (who performs Sock Puppet earlier in the week) will also be performing a new twenty-minute work-in-progress.
John-Luke Roberts
John-Luke Roberts is a writer for Radio 4’s The News Quiz, one half of sketch duo The Behemoth, and his first solo show Distracts You From a Murder was called a “brilliant solo debut” by the Independent.
