Antonio Pappano conducts a captivating programme that celebrates the award-winning Orchestra of the Royal Opera House.

The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, founded in 1946, is famed around the world for its interpretations of opera and ballet. Now the Orchestra is placed centre stage in the first of a new series of annual concert performances, celebrating the Orchestra and its work with Music Director Antonio Pappano.

The programme opens with Maurice Ravel's luxurious orchestrations of two pieces from his piano work Miroirs, ‘Une barque sur l'océan’ and ‘Alborada del gracioso’. For Ernest Chausson's exquisite song cycle Poème de l'amour et de la mer the Orchestra is joined by acclaimed soprano Anna Caterina Antonacci. In the second half of the programme, the Orchestra plays excerpts from Leonard Bernstein's ballet Fancy Free, before bringing the programme to a close with Aleksandr Skryabin's glorious Le poème de l'extase.
