Afuriko
Infectious improvisational world grooves crafted together into full-fledged arrangements and compositions, mostly derived from the vast and spellbinding traditional repertoire of West Africa...
The project was formed in Paris in 2010 and is co-lead by percussionist Akiko Horii and pianist Jim Funnell. Their 1st EP was released in the summer of 2012, followed by tours in Japan and the UK. Musicians who have collaborated with the duo include Hiroshi Fukutomi (guitar), Chris Hayward (flutes) and Philippe Lopes De Sa (saxophones).
