Oliver Twist: Artemis Studios Performing Arts School

'Among other public buildings in a certain town, there is one anciently common to most towns, great or small: to wit, a workhouse. And in this particular workhouse was born, on a cold, blustery winter's day, the item of mortality whose name was to become Oliver Twist.'

So begins Charles Dickens' story of an orphan born in the workhouse. He escapes from his miserable existence and flees to London, where he meets the Artful Dodger, leader of a gang of juvenile lawbreakers.

Oliver is led to the hideout of Fagin, who trains the boys to pick pockets, but Oliver remains naively unaware of their unlawful activities. Although rescued from a life of crime by the kindly Mr Brownlow, Oliver is then kidnapped and returned to the gang.

Will he ever find his way back to the loving care of Mr Brownlow and receive his rightful inheritance?

This adaptation was written by Reg Mitchell, with original music commissioned by Artemis and written by Derry Pope. Performed by students of Artemis Studios Performing Arts School.

Suitable for children 8+ years (contains some violence).
