Bach Meets Tavener
Forming part of the Festival’s celebration of the life of Sir John Tavener, who passed away in 2013 aged 69, Bach Meets Tavener brings together two of his closest associates.
Patricia Rozario – one of the world’s leading sopranos – forged a unique musical partnership with Tavener and he created more than 30 works for her, including the Akhmatova Songs<. Tavener also composed and dedicated Mahavakyas for the international cellist, Josephine Knight, inspired by the Sarabande from Bach’s first Suite for solo cello – completed shortly before his death last year.
Playing Bach’s Sarabande amongst Tavener’s magnificent, meditative compositions, this is a personal celebration of one of the finest ever composers of our age, featuring two great musicians who inspired his distinctive work.
