The Pirates of Penzance

Since its première in 1879, The Pirates of Penzance has been one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular operas.

From the rough but tender-hearted pirates to the coy but eager daughters of the Major-General, and the outwardly bold but inwardly nervous policemen, the chorus has lots of memorable numbers, like “Climbing over rocky mountain”, “With cat-like tread” and “A policeman’s lot is not a happy one”.

We also meet Frederic, the Pirate Apprentice, his commander the swashbuckling Pirate King, his beloved Mabel and her father, the “very model of a modern Major-General”.
