Doon The Dunny: Bookends Theatre Group

A play by Jim Ewing and Terri Kelly, set in 1950s Glasgow.

Christmas is approaching, knife crime is rife, burglaries are up, and the café and the Barrowland Ballroom are the places to go.

Pasquali and Rena own the 'tallys' and the kids still play in the streets - but why does Ina spend so much time 'Doon the Dunny?'

The newlyweds Billy and Helen are hoping for a hoose and trying for a wean 'well she is!

Their parents Agnes and Jock, Margaret and Tommy are playing happy families despite their 'differences' until Granny Mary puts the cat among the pigeons at the beetle drive, and the fur flies!

Rab is so accident prone the hospital is in danger of running out of bandages.

Mrs Weir the 'windae hinger' watches over it all including the two local ladies of the night and the mysterious stranger.

Packed with 'goings on' and fine 'patter' from the old Glasgow characters. Old Glesgae street songs by the 'weanses' complete the picture and prove that nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
