The full title of Van Morrison’s latest album, 2012’s Born to Sing: No Plan B, encapsulates the uncompromising passion and drive that have been constants throughout his extraordinarily rich and varied 50-year career.

Born in Belfast, and originally inspired by his shipyard worker father’s collection of blues, country and gospel, Van the Man has worked with such fellow legends as Bob Dylan, The Band, John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles and Tom Jones, amassing myriad top accolades including six Grammys, an Ivor Novello Award, an OBE and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

His recorded output constitutes one of the most revered catalogues in popular music history, as he continues to re-investigate and reinvent his roots in blues, jazz, skiffle, country and soul, both in the studio and onstage, with recent years’ live highlights including the first ever performances of his seminal 1968 release Astral Weeks, as well as a blistering headline set at 2014’s 50th Cambridge Folk Festival.
