Programme:
Kurtág - Pieces from Játékok
Schubert - Sonata in A minor, D784
Ravel - Sonatine
Beethoven - Sonata in C, Op 53 Waldstein
This extremely talented young Scottish pianist has been emerging as a major international artist in the last few years with highly acclaimed recordings and recitals in prestigious venues like the Wigmore Hall. Known for his imaginative programming, here he places some of Hungarian composer György Kurtág's tiny, delicate miniatures alongside the elegance of Ravel and the tragic intensity of Schubert's late A minor Sonata. The Waldstein is one of Beethoven's greatest and, for the pianist, most challenging sonatas requiring Herculean feats of pianism - for which Alasdair Beatson is well-equipped.
