Clint Eastwood has proved that he can act with only an empty chair for company, and here he puts his considerable skills to good use in this gentle drama co-starring Justin Timberlake. Eastwood plays Gus, a crotchety old scout for the Atlanta Braves. Slowly being pushed out of his job by his employers' desire for new ideas, Gus has one last chance to prove himself by finding a top prospect in North Carolina. His boss (John Goodman) is worried about him and convinces Gus' daughter Mickey (Amy Adams) to go along as well. Gus doesn't want a babysitter, but Mickey soon realises that his sight is deteriorating and wants to help him. They also encounter Johnny (Timberlake), a much younger scout who develops a romantic interest in Mickey.
