About The Two Faces Of January

Based on the novel of the same name by Patricia Highsmith, who also wrote The Talented Mr Ripley and Strangers On A Train. In 1962, charismatic Chester Macfarland (Viggo Mortensen) is travelling around Europe with his young, glamorous wife Colette (Kirsten Dunst). In Athens they encounter tourist guide Rydal (Oscar Isaac), a Greek-speaking American who supplements his income by scamming female tourists. Impressed by Chester's sophisticated ways and enchanted by Colette's beauty, Rydal accompanies the couple to dinner and later visits them at their opulent hotel. But he finds himself embroiled in a dark web of intrigue when Chester asks for help after apparently being the victim of an unprovoked attack. Rydal's fixation on Colette soon creates more problems.
