About The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp
Clive Candy (Roger Livesy) is a British officer sent to Berlin to trap a spy during the Second World War. He gets into an altercation with a young officer, which causes him to re-live key events of his military career. During the Boer War, he befriends a woman named Edith Hunter (Deborah Kerr) who is teaching English in Berlin. Through a series of strange circumstances he ends up fighting a German officer (Anton Walbrook) in a duel, although they develop a respect for each other. After, Edith visits them while they recuperate and it becomes clear that she has feelings for them both. The love and friendship that passes between the trio is revisited through the next two wars as they go their separate ways. This epic wartime masterpiece has been forensically restored with loving care by Martin Scorsese and Emeric Powell’s widow Thelma Schoonmaker.
