About The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

A prequel to the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) is a respectable hobbit living peacefully in the mythical world of Middle Earth, in an idyllic rural area known as The Shire. The wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellan) convinces Bilbo to leave his home and reclaim the Lonely Mountain from Smaug, one of the last remaining dragons. Bilbo is helped in his journey by a band of dwarves. Their leader Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) wants revenge as Smaug desolated his homeland and stole his people's treasure. The dwarves' rough manners irritate Bilbo, but Gandalf insists that the timid hobbit comes along on the quest. Gollum (Andy Serkis), Elrond (Hugo Weaving) and Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) are among the returning characters.
