About Sur Mes Levres (Read My Lips)

Excellent French film, which mixes elements of film noir and suspense with a smattering of comedy and social comment. A visually plain secretary with severely impaired hearing hires an ex-con as her office assistant. But it seems her talent for lip-reading is far more valuable to him then his ability to photcopy is to her. Especially when he realises a major heist is being planned at the bar where he works most evenings. Superb performances from the leads and some clever visual and aural trickery led to this beating Amelie to some of the French film awards, and is just as worthy of praise.
