About Soul Power
Soul Power started life with director Jeffrey Levy-Hinte editing Leon Gast's Oscar-winning 'When We Were Kings', the 1995 documentary detailing Muhammad Ali's fight with George Foreman in 1974 (the 'Rumble In The Jungle'). A special concert took place six weeks prior to the fight that saw both African and African-American musicians onstage, seeking to unify the two cultures. Levy-Hinte collected footage of the event during his work on 'When We Were Kings', rebuilding it into the captivating narrative of rhythm and soul that would end up as Soul Power. The once-in-a-lifetime scenes, both on and offstage, are preserved in this amazing and seamless production, helping to capture the feel of the era and bring to life an otherwise forgotten memory in the Black Power movement.
